From Everything is Mama

“He [Jimmy Fallon] received glowing review for Your Baby’s First Word Will be DADA, but when he looked around his house and realized everything is MAMA, he went back to work. If you have a three-year-old, they’ll love the pictures. And if you have a one-year-old, they’ll love how it tastes.”

Subjects and Themes

After Fallon’s success with his first children’s book, Your Baby’s First Word Will Be Dada, he immediately followed up with another hit, Everything is Mama. The second book directly plays off the comedy of the first, as every word mama tries to teach her baby only results in a cry for “mama!”

New parents will get a good laugh out of the relatable theme of the book. Infants will be easily engaged with the repeatable text and animal illustrations.

Characters

Just like in Your Baby’s First Word Will Be Dada, the book utilizes friendly animal illustrations which are perfect for infants.

The characters are meant to be very simple, so don’t go into this one expecting a lot of dialogue. That said, the minimal text on each page helps highlight the comedic elements of the book.

Illustrations

Everything is Mama is illustrated by Miguel Ordonez, who is also credited with Fallon’s other two books in the series.

Ordonez’s style is simple and leverages a multitude of straight lines and blocks to create the animal characters. In order to portray the comedic tone of the book, Ordonez does a great job of providing detail in the character’s expressions.

Awards and Accomplishments

Everything is Mama reached number one on the New York Times best seller list in 2019.

Additionally, the book cracked the top ten on several of Amazon’s Best Seller lists (#3 on Children’s Word Books and #7 on Children’s Parents Books).

This is a great book for children because…

Everything is Mama is a great book for infants because it is lighthearted and fun. The book provides some laughter to story time and pairs well with Fallon’s other books in the series.

If you’re looking for a gift for new parents, we definitely recommend picking up the box set of Jimmy Fallon’s board books!
