Synopsis

Lynn Parrish Sutton’s Animally contains two popular children’s book ingredients: cute animals and a fun, rhyming pattern.

The book’s theme is about love for family, and uses a variety of animals to help describe just how much.  Each page only contains a couple of sentences, but follows a consistent pattern of partnering an animal with an appropriate adverb to tell the story (i.e. I love you hugely like a whale).

Animally is a delightful trip through the animal world that’s perfect for children three and under.

What makes Animally a great book?

Ideal for young children

Animally is geared towards younger audiences because of its simple message and rhyming pattern.  The book is relatively short and only contains one or two sentences per page.  For toddlers, the text is easy to follow, and even commit to memory, as my daughter can often recite it back to me.  Anyone with a child three or under knows that their attention spans are incredibly short, so the book’s brevity makes it great for younger audiences.

Thanks to its family-oriented message and use of animals, Animally is also an excellent choice for people looking for a gift idea for newer parents.

Illustrations

It’s really important for books to have fun illustrations when they’re designed for young children.  Right from the start, it’s easy to see why Animally is such a popular choice for toddlers.  After all, who doesn’t like looking at pictures of animals with their babies?

With each page featuring several animals, readers are introduced to a lot of different illustrations.  Although each drawing only takes up a small portion of the page, they’re certainly not lacking in detail.  Most of the animal drawings also contain colorful settings that are very eye-catching. My daughter really enjoys stopping to find the baby animal in each one.

While the book’s theme of love and family have made it popular, the illustrations by Hazel Mitchell are what help give Animally its charm.

Whether you’re looking for a great gift idea or just a fun, bedtime read with your toddler, Lynn Parrish Sutton’s Animally is sure to not disappoint.
