Book Review: Little Blue Truck’s Springtime

Author Alice Schertle brings back her Little Blue Truck character in this seasonal edition of her popular book series.  With Spring in the air, Little Blue Truck and his friend Toad are taking a stroll through the farm and greeting all of the animals they see.  Each animal, along with their babies, are waiting to say 'hi' as they drive by in this fun children's book.

Kids will love looking behind the flaps in the board book edition of Little Blue Truck Springtime.  The format and simplicity of the book makes it ideal for children under 3.

Spring

The most obvious subject of this book can be found in the title.  While the book doesn't have much of a "story", the lively illustrations help set a springtime tone throughout.  The images of blooming flowers and baby animals are the perfect backdrop for a book set in this time of year.

Farm Animals

Books with animals are incredibly popular with infants and toddlers.  In Little Blue Truck Springtime, the readers get to have the fun of lifting each of the flaps to see a number of farm animals and their babies.  The cute illustrations of pigs, sheep and cows are sure to keep the youngest audiences eagerly turning each page.

The main appeal of Little Blue Truck Springtime is its interactive components.  In the board book edition, kids get the pleasure of looking behind flaps on each page to discover the animal underneath.  The Kindle version also allows a touch-screen feature.  These types of elements are great for keeping young children engaged.

Even though the book is light on "story", it's worth a look thanks to the illustrations.  Like the other Little Blue Truck books, Illustrator Jill McElmurry creates a fun, bright environment that gives the book it's charm.
