Book Review: Zoogie Boogie Fever!

Have you ever wondered why animals at the zoo always seem to be laying around when you visit?  Well, author Sujean Rim answers that question with her amusing book Zoogie Boogie Fever!  

During the day, the animals in the zoo like to rest and take it easy.  But when night-time comes around they put on their dancing shoes!  From break-dancing to the tango, all of the animals let loose with their own, unique moves.  The party goes on through the night until the zookeeper comes around.  Once the coast is clear, it's back to doing the zoogie boogie!

Zoogie Boogie Fever! is not intended to be overly educational, but does give younger audiences fun illustrations of common zoo animals.  Each page uses bright, watercolor images of each animal decked out in their dancing attire to create a fun, humorous story.  Author/illustrator Sujean Rim includes over a dozen different animals throughout the book which go a long way to keep younger readers engaged.

Performing Arts

While there isn't a ton of depth into detailed dance steps, Rim does include mentions of several common moves in the book.  References to the "cha cha", "foxtrot", "tango" and "salsa" provide an easy introduction to dancing for kids.  Zoogie Boogie Fever! is best as a read-aloud book that gets kids up out of their seat!

The illustrations in Zoogie Boogie Fever! are enough of a reason to give this one a look.  Sujean Rim uses her signature watercolors to create bright, detailed images of all of the zoo animals.  Each animal's colorful depiction (complete with dancing attire) helps set an energetic tone for the book which is great for keeping engagement high.  My daughter often stops me from turning the page just so she can stop and take in the detail of each animal and their dancing clothes.
