About Giraffes Can’t Dance
It’s that time of year in Africa where all of the animals get together for the annual Jungle Dance. This is not good news for Gerald the Giraffe who unfortunately is a pretty bad dancer. After freezing up when it’s his turn to dance and being mocked by the other animals, Gerald leaves the dance feeling sad and alone. But on his way home, Gerald finds some inspiration from a friend who encourages him to find “a different song” and soon enough, Gerald is doing somersaults and and leaping in the air! All of the other animals begin gathering around to see Gerald’s miraculous new moves and watch amazed as they proclaim him the best dancer they’ve ever seen.

Why We Recommend It
The captivating illustrations by Guy Parker Rees make this a preferred choice for pre-school children, as they root for the underdog title character Gerald in this popular picture book. Giraffes Can’t Dance has a fun, rhyming pattern that is great for younger children to follow, in addition to the story’s wonderful theme of perseverance and overcoming adversity.

If you’re looking for a fun read with a great message, we strongly encourage making this a part of your story time routine!
